3

author: J. K. Rowling

publisher: Scholastic

synopsis:

Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary boy. He lives with his Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and cousin Dudley, who are mean to him and make him sleep in a cupboard under the stairs. (Dudley, however, has two bedrooms, one to sleep in and one for all his toys and games.) Then Harry starts receiving mysterious letters and his life is changed forever. He is whisked away by a beetle-eyed giant of a man and enrolled at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The reason: Harry Potter is a wizard!

dear harry potter,

i’m dedicating this first letter of my new feature on my blog because you’re the one that started it all. without you, none of this would have happened. i wouldn’t have discovered the pleasure of reading, wouldn’t have discovered the book community, wouldn’t have traveled to england and wouldn’t have made a blog. that’s why i owe you everything that’s currently happening in my life…

starting Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone was the best decision i’ve ever made in my life. i didn’t imagine then that i would live such amazing and wonderful adventures with you, and discover a whole new magical world. reading and living your adventures was one of the best moments in my life, and i won’t forget it.

reading your adventures made me grow seven years in two months. it was probably the best two months (or seven years) in my life; i’ve learnt so many things in such a short amount of time, and it’s crazy.

when i finished Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, i couldn’t believe your adventures were done. but since that day, i’ve always found myself returning to you: whether i’m sad or happy or nostalgic. it’s like you’re my therapy.

you had a big impact in my life, and i surely will never forget that.

yours truly,

maha

  1. I was older when these books published, but my son was young and his dad started reading them too, and it gave us something to do as a family. I am so happy the books pulled so many people into good reading habits. I love this feature and am looking forward to your future posts. 🙂
